if the lateral magnification is m then whatis the logitudnial magnification? pls explain how is lateral and logitudnial magnification related.........

The lateral magnification ? is the ratio of the length of the image of a line segment perpendicular to the optical axis and the length of the segment. The longitudinal magnification ? is the ratio of the length of a line segment lying along the optical axis in the image space and the length of the conjugate segment in the object space. ? = ?*?

Lateral magnification is the measure of magnification produced laterally ie BREADTH  wise.... and longitudinal is the measure of LENGTH wise  increase..... in comparison with the image and the object.....
